New visions is a beautiful project that awakens creativity in children, the camera is the means by which children and adolescents express their way of seeing life.
Although this project was not carried out by the Colectivo Oaxaca Cultural, it was the project with which the Director, Ixchel Castellón Piedras, began the development and management of cultural projects within Oaxaca.
This project started in the community of Reyes Mantecon, in 2012, as a photography teacher giving a workshop to 15 children of limited resources and which would show that just missing a “push” to motivate children to perform and promote the art.
This gives rise to the project “training of photographic talents” and that would later show to the CFMAB and in coordination it would be transformed into “New Visions, Narrating Visual Stories”. Today the workshop almost 4 years of its formation has been in at least 4 communities of Oaxaca; Teotitlan del Valle, San Bartolo Coyotepec, San Antonio, Mixes, El Rosario
This project has reached more than 50 children and young people between 8 and 16 years old, which provides them with a camera and classes with specialized teachers. The project has the purpose of artistically sensitizing children to use the camera tool to express their feelings and way of seeing life.
Some of the children from the different communities have seen their lives transformed from the photography workshop. Agileo of San Antonio Texas, Mixes won a photo contest, Javier is the recognized photographer in his community and soon will present a photographic exhibition,
It is planned to take more communities and expand the number of children who take the workshop.
